• Appeal of Prempro verdict denied by U.S. Supreme Court Monday, June 21, 2010

    Bloomberg BusinessWeek:  An Arkansas jury’s $2.7 million award to a woman who claimed her use of the menopause symptom relief drug Prempro led her to develop breast cancer was allowed to stand when the U.S. Supreme Court decided not to hear an appeal by the drug’s maker, PfizerGreg Stohr and Jef Feeley write plaintiff Donna Scroggin contended “company executives ignored studies raising questions about the link between hormone-replacement drugs and breast cancer to pump up sales of their drugs.”

    Tort reform has given us repealed regulations, gutted safety precautions, special immunities and privileges for unaccountable multinational corporations and get-out-of-jail-free legal loopholes for big corporate CEOs.
