California hospitals fined for medical mistakes
Wednesday, January 27, 2010
Los Angeles Times: Molly Hennessy-Fiske reports on a DPH news release says, “13 California hospitals have been assessed administrative penalties after a determination that the facilities’ noncompliance with licensing requirements has caused, or was likely to cause, serious injury or death to patients.” Among the errors: the death of a patient who had a heart attack after failure to make sure his heart monitor didn’t become disconnected; wheeling a patient on a metal gurney near an MRI machine, where she was sucked in by the machine’s magnetic force and broke a leg and a foot.
