Children at risk from tipping furniture and TVs
Thursday, August 9, 2012
FairWarning.org: Thousands of children have wound up in emergency rooms in recent years, and “scores have died,” as a result of injuries caused by pieces of furniture toppling, according to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission. This report by Lilly Fowler says the commission’s study is prompting a look into ways to make such items as dressers, storage cabinets and televisions more stable to reduce the risk of toppling. TVs pose a particular risk; Fowler says they “are often precariously placed on furniture not designed to support the sets.”
