Elder abuse leads to $28 million punitive damages award

Sacramento Bee: A Sacramento County jury awarded $28 million in punitive damages to the family of a 79-year-old woman who died in an Auburn nursing home in 2005. Frances Tanner died from an infected bedsore after breaking her hip in a fall. Cynthia Hubert reports “jurors heard accusations of chronic understaffing, poor medical documentation and corporate greed.”
