• Fireplace glass fronts causing third-degree burns, manufacturers now facing heat Friday, June 3, 2011

    FairWarning.org: “Makers of gas fireplaces are being buffeted by lawsuits and the threat of federal regulation amid heightened concerns about the risk of burns from the glass fronts of the appliances, which can get hot enough to melt skin,” according to a report by Myron Levin. The federal Consumer Product Safety Commission has allowed the fireplace industry to set its own standards to this point, and the industry standard allows the glass fronts to be as hot as 500 degrees.
