Some “free” credit reports aren’t free
Friday, February 5, 2010
Huffington Post: Arthur Delaney writes about the class action suit against the company that operates FreeCreditReports.com. The lead plaintiff is a Wisconsin college student who went to the site in response to the company’s ubiquitous advertising and inadvertently signed up for credit monitoring service at $14.95 a month. “The complaint says that nobody goes to FreeCreditReport.com for anything but a free credit report. In other words, nobody goes there looking for the ‘Triple Advantage’ credit monitoring service, which is mentioned in a hushed, rushed tone at the end of the ads as a condition of a previous FTC settlement.”
