Los Angeles Times: The new owner of Countrywide Financial Corporation has agreed to pay $108 million to settle federal charges that the company overcharged and deceived 200,000 mortgage borrowers who were facing foreclosure.

Los Angeles Daily Journal: Attorneys for Countrywide Financial have reportedly agreed to a $600 million settlement of a federal class action suit filed by investors who claim the company withheld information about the possible impact of a downturn in the housing market.

Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger took more campaign donations, $2.9 million, from subprime lenders than any state politician in the nation during this decade. His aides said the money had no impact on his decisions.
