Public Policy Institute of California: Californians place much more importance on college than do adults nationwide. Latinos (81%) are somewhat more likely than blacks (76%) and much more likely than Asians (66%) and whites (57%) to believe that college is necessary for success. Across education groups, strong majorities agree that a college education is necessary, with residents who have only a high school education or less the most likely to agree. Belief that a college education is necessary declines with increasing age. Three in four California college students (74%) say college is necessary for success.
